Catheter Utilization Ratio

A urinary catheter is a tube inserted into the bladder to drain urine. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are very common healthcare-associated infections.

How Are We Performing?

How Do We Continuously Improve?

NEBH employs a number of best practice protocols to ensure preventable catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) are avoided. The first step in the CAUTI protocol is for our care team to evaluate each patient and make an informed decision on whether or not a catheter is appropriate. New supplies are always evaluated to ensure our patient’s needs are met. With these protocols in place, utilization rates of catheters have decreased.
