Boston, Mass. – Samir K. Patel, MD, FCCP, FASA, has been appointed Chief of Anesthesiology at New England Baptist Hospital, part of Beth Israel Lahey Health. Patel has practiced anesthesiology at New England Baptist since 2020. He is also an anesthesiologist at Mount Auburn Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton (BID Milton), which are also part of Beth Israel Lahey Health.
“We are pleased to announce Dr. Samir Patel as our new Chief of Anesthesiology,” said David Passafaro, president of New England Baptist Hospital. “Dr. Patel is a capable, compassionate and dedicated doctor who is deeply committed to the comfort and safety of his patients, and we are fortunate to have him in this role.”
Patel started his career in 1998 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, where he practiced for five years. He then spent 17 years at South Shore Hospital, where he was the Chief of Critical Care Medicine before joining New England Baptist Hospital, in addition to serving patients at Mount Auburn and BID Milton. He is also currently the medical director of the Intensive Care Unit at BID Milton.

Patel graduated from the University of Glasgow Medical School in Scotland, UK, in 1989. He completed his internship at Yale Medical School in New Haven, Conn., and his residency at the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He then completed a fellowship in critical care medicine at the Mayo Clinic Medical School in Rochester, Minn. He also has been an instructor and program director of the anesthesiology/critical care medicine fellowship at Harvard Medical School. Patel is also currently chair of the membership committee for the Massachusetts Medical Society.
