New England Baptist Hospital Awarded Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement from the Joint Commission

New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH), the region’s premier provider in orthopedic surgery and the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, is pleased to announce it has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement. The advanced certification is for Joint Commission-accredited hospitals seeking to elevate the quality, consistency and safety of patient care. NEBH is the only hospital in Boston to achieve this designation.

NEBH underwent a rigorous review to earn the advanced surgical certification. Joint Commission experts evaluated compliance with advanced disease-specific care standards, and total hip and total knee replacement requirements. These requirements include orthopedic consultation, and pre-operative, intraoperative and post-surgical orthopedic care.

“Achieving Advanced Total Hip and Knee Replacement Certification recognizes New England Baptist Hospital’s commitment to provide care in a safe and efficient manner for all patients,” said Patrick Phelan, executive director, Hospital Business Development, The Joint Commission. “The advanced certification will help NEBH better provide coordinated and comprehensive care to patients undergoing a total hip or total knee replacement.”

“We are pleased to receive certification as an advanced national center of excellence in joint replacement surgery by The Joint Commission, the premier health care quality improvement and accrediting body in the country,” added Trish Hannon, President and CEO at NEBH. “As a high volume surgical specialty hospital in orthopedic care, we strive to achieve the best outcomes and experience for our patients. This recognition serves to acknowledge the work of the great team of clinicians at NEBH.”

Established in 2016 and awarded for a two-year period, the advanced certification was developed in response to the growing number of patients undergoing a total hip or total knee replacement surgery, as well as the increased focus on clinical evidence-based patient care as it relates to pain management, quality of life issues, functional limitation in mobility and the return to normal daily activities.
