Celtics Player Kelly Olynyk Visits with Local Youth as Part of the Jr. Celtics Program Presented by NEBH

Olynyk discusses the importance of hard work and how developing a daily routine can lead to success

Boston Celtics Center Kelly Olynyk met and spoke with 200 students from grades three to five from participating YMCA’s and community centers as part of the Jr. Celtics program presented by New England Baptist Hosptial. Olynyk coached the kids through drill stations in addition to speaking to the youth about the value of hard work, the sacrifices one needs to make in order to be successful, and he reinforced the need for developing a daily routine.

“The Jr. Celtics program is a great opportunity for me to be able to spend time with these young kids and try to give them the advice I have received over the years that had helped me get where I am today,” Olynyk said.  “It is a perfect way to encourage kids to live good and healthy lives that can down the road help them to be successful in life.”

The Jr. Celtics appearance is a year long program that will help youth in the Greater Boston area develop fundamental basketball skills that they can use in their local leagues. The Jr. Celtics program encourages self-improvement and development of leadership skills that the youth can use to make themselves and their communities better. This program partners with YMCA, Boston Centers for Youth and Families, Special Olympics and Doc Wayne along with the Up2Us Coach Across America program.
