BOSTON (October 24, 2013) – The Boston Celtics raised over $800,000 for area children’s charities at their annual Shamrock Gala, benefitting the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation, at the Intercontinental Hotel. Proceeds from the event directly benefitted the focus partners of the Shamrock Foundation including Perkins School for the Blind, Boston Children’s Hospital, Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston, Horizons for Homeless Children, and The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (MSPCC), Citi Performing Arts Center, Berklee City Music Network, and Positive Coaching Alliance.
In addition to supporting the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation, numerous special pledges were made throughout the night from guests to help fund two (2) technology spaces for in-need youth that will be built during the 2013-2014 season.
“This gala dinner is always a wonderful event to help welcome the start of a new season,” Celtics Co-owner and Shamrock Foundation President Steve Pagliuca said. “Each year I am always impressed by the generosity of Celtics fans, and tonight we not only were able to greatly aid some very worthy organizations, but we had a great evening enjoyed by our players, coaches, Legends and fans.”
The event was emceed by Grantland.com editor-in-chief and NBA Countdown co-host, Bill Simmons.
“New England Baptist Hospital is proud to sponsor the Shamrock Foundation’s Annual Gala,” said Trish Hannon, President and CEO of New England Baptist Hospital. “NEBH has been the official hospital of the Boston Celtics for over 27 years and it is always nice to work together to raise money for children’s charities around the Boston area.”
