Dr. William Mitchell is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon at New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH). Dr. Mitchell earned his medical degree at Columbia University and completed a General Surgery Residency at St. Luke’s’ Hospital Medical Center and an Orthopedic Surgery Residency at The New York Orthopedic Hospital in New York City. In addition, Dr. Mitchell completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Keller Army Hospital-The United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.

As a former world class athlete and captain of Penn State University gymnastics team, Dr. Mitchell has a special interest in treating athletic injury. He did his specialty training in athletic trauma, treating the cadets of the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York, as their team Physician. He was honored to serve as Medical Director for the United States Gymnastics Olympic team trials and is a former team doctor for the Boston Celtics and the United States Alpine Men’s and Women’s Ski teams. Dr. Mitchell is the current team Physician for Mt. Ida College athletics in Brookline, MA.

Dr. Mitchell is a member of several professional organizations including American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine Arthroscopy Association of North America.

Dr. Mitchell specializes in the treatment of athletic trauma, reconstructive joint surgery, and common and complex cartilage, tendon and ligament disorders of major joints (shoulder, knee, elbow and ankle). He performs minimally invasive joint resurfacing and joint replacement surgery of the shoulder and knee.
