Dr. James A. Karlson is an Orthopedic Surgeon at New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH). In addition to his work at NEBH, Dr. Karlson holds an academic appointment as Clinical Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine.

In 2009, Dr. Karlson was recognized with the Patients’ Choice Award, a prestigious title awarded to less than 5 percent of the nation’s active physicians. The award recognized Dr. Karlson and his staff for receiving high patient approval ratings on various components of his practice including bedside manner, doctor-patient face time, degree of follow-up, courtesy of office staff, and overall opinions.

After earning his medical degree from Brown University School of Medicine, Dr. Karlson completed his internship at New England Deaconess Hospital, followed by a residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Harvard Combined Orthopedic Residency Program. He then completed a fellowship at New England Baptist Hospital.

Dr. Karlson specializes in sports medicine, knee, hip, ankle, and shoulder injuries.
