Dr. Frederick C. Basilico is Physician in Chief for Medicine at New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH). In this role, he provides leadership for the primary care and medical specialty practice at NEBH. Dr. Basilico, a cardiologist, also serves as Chief of Cardiology and as President of the New England Baptist Medical Associates. He has been instrumental in the creation of the Hospitalist and Intensivist services at NEBH. His current focus is the creation of a comprehensive perioperative medical management service.

Dr. Basilico has served as Chairman of the Patient Care Assessment Committee and remains committed as a physician leader in health care quality. He focuses his efforts on patient quality and safety. He holds an academic appointment as Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

With sports cardiology as his concentration, Dr. Basilico co-founded and serves as co-director of the W. Thomas Nessa Center for Sports Cardiology at NEBH. He also runs a general consultative cardiology practice with a focus on noninvasive and diagnostic invasive testing and management of most adult cardiac diseases. He has worked with high school, college and professional athletes, and is a cardiology consultant to the Boston Celtics. His research interests include preparticipation screening for participation in sports and perioperative cardiac management for noncardiac surgery.

In addition to his work at NEBH, Dr. Basilico is involved in international health care, arranging medical supplies and equipment for Tribhuvan University Medical Center in Katmandu, Nepal. Also, through the non-profit organization HealthCare Nepal, he has overseen the education of physicians, surgeons and hospital administrators who come to Boston to advance their medical careers. With the support of his patients, HealthCare Nepal has funded pediatric and neonatal intensive care units in Kathmandu, organizational support for Autism Nepal and the building of school buildings in a rural area of Nepal.

Dr. Basilico is a current member of several professional societies including the American Heart Association, American Medical Association and the National Basketball Association Team Physicians’ Society. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease. He received his Medical Degree from Cornell University Medical College (currently Weill Cornell Medical College).

Dr. Basilico has been recognized as “Top Doctor” by Boston Magazine and by US News and World Report.
