Anesthesia Care Services
Anesthesia Care Services at New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH) offers expert anesthetic care, including pain management.
Our department comprises about 60 board-certified anesthesiologists along with certified registered nurse anesthetists. In delivering our services, we collaborate with Anesthesia Associates of Massachusetts, a national leader and innovator in patient safety. Together, we strive to provide safe, efficient anesthetic care to every patient.
Our dedicated block team is skilled in placing regional blocks for all extremities to manage intraoperative and postoperative pain. The team includes five anesthesiologists who specialize in ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia, a major reason for our 99 percent success rate with nerve blocks.
Anesthesia Care Services also features a dedicated acute pain service. This highly trained team uses state-of-the-art techniques (e.g. ultrasound-guided nerve blocks, continuous catheter infusions) to minimize intraoperative pain. A pain management physician is available 24/7 to consult with NEBH orthopedic surgeons.
A Commitment to Innovation
NEBH has led the way in virtually eliminating the use of patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) associated with hip or knee replacement and other major surgeries.
Our advanced, multimodal protocol for pain management includes a preoperative pain management "cocktail" of medications as well as nerve blocks, intraoperative injections, postoperative medication and postoperative pain consultation (if needed). The protocol has helped us enhance patient comfort, avoid the side effects of excessive narcotics, shorten average length of stay and much more.
Moving forward, Anesthesia Care Services will continue to advance the anesthesia field by participating in clinical research with our affiliates, Tufts University and Boston University schools of medicine.
