May 11-17 is National Hospital Week, which celebrates hospitals and the men and women who support the health of their communities through compassionate care, innovation and dedication. In celebration of this week, NEBH offers four tips to keep you healthy this season.
- Use sunscreen with sun protective factor (SPF) 15 or higher, and both UVA and UVB protection.
- As the temperatures start to rise, don’t forget to drink plenty of water.
- Exercise regularly. Perform light exercise such as walking for at least 30 minutes 5 days a week. Alternatively, perform moderate exercise such as running or bicycling for at least 30 minutes 3 days a week. When it starts to get hot out, do any strenuous activities during the cooler parts of the day-in the morning and evening.
- Maintain a diet that is low in saturated fats and cholesterol. Focus on increased intake of fruits and vegetables. Protein sources include poultry without skin, fish or legumes.
