Alycia Rackliffe

rackliffe_inner_page.jpgAfter starring on the volleyball and basketball court at Agawam High School in Feeding Hills, MA, Alycia Rackliffe was looking forward to beginning her collegiate athletic career at Framingham State University. For a dedicated athlete like Rackliffe, being on the sidelines with an injury is not an option. That’s why even after suffering a knee injury during a preseason volleyball practice, she continued to play. “I played my entire volleyball season with a lot of swelling,” says Rackliffe. Despite the injury, Rackliffe had a remarkable season and was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Volleyball Rookie of the Year.

However, the swelling was a sign of a bigger issue. “During the very last game of the season, I had pain for the first time. I decided it was time to go see our team physician, Dr. Arthur Christiano.”

Rackliffe headed to the New England Baptist Outpatient Care Center in Dedham, a brand new state of the art facility that focuses on sports medicine and orthopedic surgery. “I was comfortable as soon as I walked in,” says Rackliffe. “Everyone I met was so welcoming and friendly, and the facility is so nice and new.”

After reviewing her MRI, Dr. Christiano, orthopedic surgeon and surgical director at New England Baptist Outpatient Care Center, recommended surgery to remove a torn meniscus. With basketball season just around the corner, Rackliffe was looking for a quick recovery. “I had a great experience working with Dr. Christiano. He answered all my questions and was very clear with what was going on with my knee. He knew I wanted to get back to basketball season, and the whole process was very quick.”

After a successful surgery at the New England Baptist Outpatient Care Center and just four weeks of rehab, Rackliffe was back on the basketball court. Even after missing the first half of the season, she had an incredible comeback, and was named MASCAC Basketball Rookie of the Year. Thanks to the expert care at NEBH, Rackliffe “couldn’t have asked for a better experience. They got me in, they got me out, I’m healthy, and that’s all I can really ask for.”
