The NEBH Methodology Core

The Core consists of a group of research professionals with competency in research design for clinical trials, epidemiologic studies, qualitative research, and new measurement development. The members of the team offer expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics, behavioral science, psychometrics, statistical programming, database and project management and research coordination. The group meets weekly to review new and ongoing projects and to provide data analytic advice, computational support, and help in designing sound databases. It can provide assistance both early and late in a study, as well as help investigators interpret their results for dissemination in peer-reviewed journals.

The New England Baptist Hospital Research Methodology Support program provides critical review of proposed research projects through a group called the NEBH Methodology Core. Working with the NEBH Methodology Core group allows researchers to collaborate with other researchers in the development of research protocols and grants, participate in a wide range of multidisciplinary research projects, and to supervise students, residents, and fellows, as appropriate. The group also provides training and consultation to clinical researchers at NEBH in the development of clinical research initiatives and protocols.

Biostatistics
  • Provide consultation to investigators and research staff on appropriate statistical approaches for data analysis.
  • Develop methodological strategies for prospective and retrospective studies.
  • Work with a variety of data sources
  • Develop protocols for complex data analysis.
  • Execute descriptive and multivariate statistical analysis.

Programming
  • Manage multiple large and complex health, administrative and exposure databases using SAS and MS SQL.
  • Integrate raw data updates into existing databases, perform quality checks, recode and reclassify variables, explore relationships between variables and document how they change over time.
  • Conduct various statistical analyses such as logistic regression, survival analysis, categorical data modeling, and measures of association, primarily using SAS.

Database Management
  • Consultation regarding data collection methods and options.
  • On-line study tracking and management systems.
  • On-line study data collection systems.
  • Data preparation for analysis.
  • Prepare and maintain data sets.
  • Reporting for IRB and sponsors.
