The New England Baptist Hospital Research Funding Award provides up to $75,000 of funding for innovative, original, and collaborative translational and/or clinical research projects and up to $50,000 of funding support to train new research fellows. NEBH recognizes that conducting original research requires substantial funding. This research award is targeted for qualified investigators and, for the first time, mentored fellows, with meritorious projects that are designed to generate preliminary data to support full-scale research projects funded by external sources. Successful pilot projects may be eligible for additional RFA funding to support later phases of a project in future years. Larger studies needing supplemental funding to support implementation are also appropriate for a Research Funding Award.
Congratulations to the Winners of the 2008 Research Funding Award winners:
Murray Bern, MD - Prophylaxis against thromboembolic disease following orthopedic surgeries on extremities at NEBH
David Hunter, MD - The role of bone and its measurement in knee osteoarthritis
David Kim, MD - Prospective study of intraoperative dural tears during lumbar spinal surgery
Brian McKeon, MD - Classification and evaluation of the role of synovium and synovial inflammation in the pathogenesis of early osteoarthritis
Mentored fellowship awards are intended to encourage qualified professionals without significant prior research training to embark on careers in biomedical and/or clinical research in orthopedic or musculoskeletal disorders.
