Woodard Health Sciences Library

The Woodard Health Sciences Library offers access to authoritative and current medical literature, serving the educational and research needs of the administrative, medical, nursing, and allied health staffs of NEBH. To support excellence in patient care, the Library provides exceptional information services to our patients, New England Baptist Hospital employees, and the Mission Hill community.

The Library is located on the third floor of the Hospital's Main Building.

Interlibrary Loan
Books, journal articles, or audio-visuals that are not held in the NEBH collection can be requested from other libraries or sources. This is a free service for NEBH employees and medical staff. Interlibrary loan generally takes four business days but varies depending on local availability of the title requested. Please speak with library staff if your request is urgent.
To request an interlibrary loan please provide the following information:

  • Name, department, and contact phone number
  • Printed, photocopied, or hand-written citation lists

Document Delivery
The library provides desktop delivery of articles and book chapters from the NEBH collection via scanned PDF files.

Reference Assistance
The professional library staff provides:

  • Assistance in using the Library's print and electronic resources
  • Guidance in selecting appropriate databases
  • Advice on search methods

Current Awareness Program
Our Current Awareness Program involves forwarding the most recent table-of-contents from select journals to keep you up-to-date with the latest innovations and techniques in medicine.

Hours
The Library is staffed by a professional medical librarian Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you need assistance outside of regular business hours we are happy to arrange a time that works best with your schedule. New England Baptist Hospital employees and physicians may access the Library 24 hours a day, seven days a week via ID badge.

Patient/Family Resource Room (617) 754-5155
Located within the Paul E.Woodard Health Sciences Library on the third floor of the Hospital's Main Building, the Patient/Family Resource Room is a place to find easy-to-read health education materials, providing patients, families and members of the community access to quality health information.

The Resource Room is staffed by a professional medical librarian who is able to provide assistance in locating appropriate print and electronic materials that relate to your health questions and interests. Although the Patient/Family Resource Room staff cannot offer medical advice or recommend treatment options, the health information obtained will allow individuals to discuss their medical concerns in greater detail with their physician.

Patients, families, and members of the community are welcome to:

  • Browse our collection of up-to-date consumer health books covering an array of topics such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Take home pamphlets on a variety of medical conditions and surgical procedures.
  • Read popular health magazines such as Arthritis Today, Harvard Health Letter, Prevention, and Tufts Health & Nutrition Newsletter.
  • View videotapes on arthroscopic surgery, back pain, arthritis, asthma, heart disease, diabetes and many other health topics.
  • Access online health databases on the Resource Room's public-access computer terminal, and link to evaluated consumer health websites.
