Professional Development

Knowledge is Power
Our employees are our greatest asset. The skills and knowledge of our staff is the foundation upon which our excellence is based. In order to sustain continued growth, we must continuously enhance our expertise and skills while ensuring we have adequate staff to meet patient demand. NEBH has a number of programs in place to help you meet your own personal goals as well as our organizational development goals.

Furthering your education is a big investment of time and money. At NEBH, our goal is to provide the financial support to encourage our employees to expand their knowledge. There are two primary programs for benefit-eligible employees that help us meet this goal:

  • Tuition Reimbursement: Up to $1,500 per academic year is available towards accredited courses that apply to your position or another career at NEBH. You must meet service requirements and receive a passing grade to be eligible.

  • Nursing Scholarships: NEBH offers up to $3,500 per academic year for a student pursuing a degree in nursing (paid directly to the school), up to $275 per year for certification/re-certification, and up to $1,500 per year for a specialty preparation course.

Clinical Advancement Opportunities
At NEBH, we have a clinical ladder which allows for advancement and financial reward for taking on additional responsibilities and acquiring knowledge. Based on employee feedback, the program has been expanded to incorporate more clinical disciplines.

Workforce Development
NEBH recently provided an opportunity for employees to earn an Associate's Degree in Nursing and Certification as a Surgical Technologist through career "pipeline" programs. These programs are designed to promote career growth for our employees and create a pipeline of qualified candidates for professions that are facing workforce shortages.  In partnership with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Children's Hospital and Bunker Hill Community College, NEBH was recently awarded a grant from the State's Workforce Competitiveness Trust Fund to initiate a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Training Program.  Employees selected through a competitive application process will earn their Associate's Degree in Medical Lab Technology and will then work as MLTs at NEBH after graduation.  These programs are designed to make it as easy as possible for employees to continue to work full-time while obtaining a college degree. NEBH will cover the full cost of tuition, books and fees.
