Wellness Mission Statement

"It is the mission of the NEBH Wellness Committee to foster healthier lifestyle choices to reduce risk factors, improve overall well being and maintain a productive active workforce."

The following programs are offered to NEBH employees:

Blood Pressure and Cholesterol Screenings
Several times per year, NEBH offers free blood pressure checks and cholesterol screenings to all NEBH employees. Based on the results of your initial blood pressure check and/or your cholesterol screening, Employee Health may ask you contact your health care provider for further follow-up.

Flu Shot Clinics

Each fall before the beginning of the Flu season, flu shot clinics are held at a number of convenient times and locations for staff.

Weight Watchers at Work

NEBH offers on-site Weight Watchers meetings at a discounted rate.

Discounted Health Club Memberships
NEBH has negotiated discount memberships with various fitness facilities located in the Boston area.  These facilities include:  Dedham Health & Athletic Club, Boston Sports Club and Healthworks Fitness for Women.

Employee Assistance Program
Because we care about your health and well-being, we have engaged Advantages Consulting as our Employee Assistance Program (EAP).  They provide a professional and confidential counseling service, to help you and your family resolve personal concerns. Advantages Consulting provide confidential intake evaluation for assessment, referral and short-term counseling 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Ergonomic Workstation Assessments
Ergonomic considerations can prevent injuries. This assessment may involve recommendations for new equipment or arrangement of furniture to facilitate increased comfort and/or performance of staff members.

Smoking Cessation
NEBH supports employees' efforts to quit smoking by providing them with an extensive program which includes class time and ongoing support free of charge.

Work Life Balance

NEBH offers a variety of programs to help you be successful at work and in life. The following program is available:

Sittercity.com provides NEBH employees with a free subscription to a comprehensive database of childcare, eldercare, pet care and house sitting providers.

Employee Benefits

Eligibility
Full Time: 
An employee scheduled to work 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for benefit coverage as a full time employee.
Part Time: 
An employee scheduled to work between 20 and 29 hours per week is eligible for benefit coverage as a part-time employee.
Employees become eligible for insurance benefits on the first day of the month immediately following their start date.
The benefit plan descriptions provided on this website are summaries only.  Full details of each coverage option are provided in plan documents and other publications available from the New England Baptist Hospital Human Resources Department.  Should there be any discrepancy between the plan documents and any of the descriptions listed on these pages, the plan documents will govern.

Description of Health, Dental & Vision Plans
Employees may choose from three different health plans, a dental plan, and a vision care plan. New England Baptist Hospital contributes to the cost of the plans, and the amount of subsidy depends upon the plan, coverage level, and full or part-time status.

Health Insurance:
3 PPO plans through Harvard Pilgrim Health Care offering in-network and out-of network coverage:

  • Premier Plan is premium priced to provide maximum benefits (no in-network deductible).
  • Plus Plan is moderately priced to provide enhanced benefits (In-network deductible: $200 per Individual/$600 per Family).
  • Essentials Plan is value priced to provide everything you need (In-network deductible: $500 per Individual/$1500 per Family)

Dental Insurance: Delta Dental PPO Plus Premier:  Dental coverage offering three levels of coverage with a calendar year maximum of $1,500.00.

Vision Care: Vision Service Plan:  provides benefits for routine eye care services, including vision exams, glasses and contact lenses through a network of optometrists and ophthalmologists.

Disability & Life Insurance
Disability and life insurance options are available to help meet the varying needs of each employee and their families.

  • Long-term Disability:  NEBH provides full-time employees with coverage at 50% of gross monthly base pay after an employee has been out for 90 days or more due to a disability.  Employees also have the option to increase coverage to 60%.  Part-time, benefit eligible employees may also purchase the 50% or 60% long-term disability option.  Long-term disability coverage is offered through Liberty Mutual Insurance Company.

  • Short-term Disability:  Employees may elect short-term disability coverage that provides 60% of gross weekly base pay for approved disabilities up to a maximum of 90 days.  Plans can be purchased that provide coverage after either a 14, 28, or 42 day waiting period.  Short-term disability coverage is offered through Liberty Mutual Insurance Company.

  • Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance:  AD&D Insurance provides an employee's beneficiary a benefit, in addition to life insurance, if an employee's death occurs in an accident on or off the job.  It also pays a benefit to an employee if a severe physical loss occurs.  AD&D can be elected up to six times an employee's annual salary. 

  • Life Insurance:  NEBH provides all benefit eligible employees with life insurance equal to one times their annual base salary at no cost. 

  • Supplemental Life Insurance:  An employee may elect to purchase additional life insurance up to 5 times their annual base salary in addition to the basic employer paid plan.
  • Spouse and Dependent Life Insurance:  Life insurance coverage for a spouse and dependant children can be purchased. 
    Retirement

NEBH offers both a Defined Benefit Pension Plan and a Defined Contribution Matching Plan.

Defined Benefit Pension Plan

After one year of employment and 1, 000 hours worked, you become a participant in the plan.  Once you have been employed for five years and worked at least 1,000 hours in each of those years, you become vested in the pension plan, meaning you may be eligible to collect a pension payment upon retirement.

Defined Contribution Matching Retirement Program/403(b)

NEBH offers the opportunity to voluntarily participate in a 403(b) plan immediately upon hire.  You can meet with representatives from MetLife and Fidelity to plan a portfolio that best suites your individual needs and financial goals.  After 2 years of employment, NEBH matches your contribution to your 403(b), up to a maximum match of 3% of your base weekly income.

Paid Time Off Programs
Earned Time is a paid time off program that combines all paid time off (holiday, vacation, sick and personal days) into a common "bank".  Time accrues on a weekly basis at a rate that varies, depending on your regularly scheduled hours and years of service.New employees begin accruing Earned Time (ET) immediately, but generally cannot use accrued ET for sick, vacation or personal days until they are vested.  Vesting occurs after completing six months of service.  Hospital observed holidays within the first six months of employment are paid from the ET bank.
There is an ET cash-in opportunity for employees in April and September.  Once yearly, employees with an adequate ET balance may choose to cash in the equivalent of one week of pay.
Once an employee discontinues work or converts to non-benefits eligible status, the balance of an employee's ET is paid out if the employee has worked or been benefits eligible for at least six months.

Tuition Reimbursement

Furthering your education is a big investment of time and money. At NEBH, our goal is to provide the financial support to encourage our employees to expand their knowledge. There are two primary programs for benefit-eligible employees that help us meet this goal:

  • Tuition Reimbursement: Up to $1,500 per academic year is available towards accredited courses that apply to your position or another career at NEBH. You must meet service requirements and receive a passing grade to be eligible.

  • Nursing Scholarships: NEBH offers up to $3,500 per academic year for a student pursuing a degree in nursing (paid directly to the school), up to $275 per year for certification/re-certification, and up to $1,500 per year for a specialty preparation course.

Parking and Transportation Programs

  • Subsidized Parking Program and MBTA Discounts

  • Off-site parking is available for just $15 per week (with free shuttle service to the Hospital) on Terrace Street, about ½ mile from the Hospital.  Additional off-site parking is available to day staff at Roxbury Community College for only $7 per week.

  • Shuttle service is provided from the Jackson Square on the MBTA Orange Line as well as the Terrace Street and RCC Employee Parking lots. The shuttle runs from 5:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and from 2:15 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. A copy of the shuttle schedule can be obtained from the Human Resources or Security Departments.  The Security Department will provide transportation to the off-site parking lots and to the Jackson Square station at anytime the shuttle is not running.
    NEBH offers a 50% Discount on MBTA Monthly Passes for benefits eligible employees.

Direct Deposit and Workplace Banking
Direct Deposit & Metro Credit Union: NEBH offers employees the convenience of having their weekly payroll check direct deposit to any bank. The direct deposit can also be split between multiple accounts or to multiple banks. In addition, Bank of America, Century Bank, Citibank and Citizens Bank offer our employees discounted banking services.

NEBH also offers employees financial services through the Metropolitan Credit Union.  Metropolitan provides a full array of competitive products and services such as:
