The Department of Radiology at New England Baptist Hospital performs a complete range of diagnostic imaging services including MRI, direct digital radiography (ddR), ultrasound, digital fluoroscopy, nuclear medicine, computed tomography (CT).
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
The Department of Radiology has extensive experience performing MRIs. As well as employing conventional High Field MRI equipment, our Department of Radiology utilizes an Open High-Field Extremity MRI machine. A non-claustrophic alternative to traditional MRIs, Open High-Field Extremity MRIs engage only an upper or lower extremity and not the entire body. In addition, our radiologists are the region's leader in Magnetic Resonance Arthrography - a technique which combines joint injection with MRI and provides excellent evaluation of joint cartilage. Our radiologists also perform MRA (MR angiography), a non-invasive procedure that uses MRI technology to produce detailed images of blood vessels.
Direct Digital Radiography (ddR)
An innovator in digital imaging, the Baptist is constantly striving to make imaging faster and more versatile. Direct Digital Radiography (ddR) allows the radiographers at the Baptist to view an image within five seconds of exposure. This expedites the interpretation process and also enables the technologists to immediately determine if additional exposures are needed. A completely digital process, ddR requires no film, so images are electronically transferred over the Hospital's computer network to the radiologists, clinician's office and the OR. The Baptist houses two ddR units. By installing this state-of-the-art technology, the Baptist continues to serve as a leader in leading-edge radiology and patient care.
Ultrasound
NEBH uses ultrasound for diagnostic testing of the thyroid, pelvic and abdominal regions, vascular system, and gynecological-related issues.
Fluoroscopy
Radiologists at the Baptist perform fluoroscopy to produce real-time images of internal structures of the body through a constant input of X-rays. Fluoroscopy is often used in imaging-guided procedures.
Nuclear Medicine
The radiologists at the Baptist have extensive expertise in nuclear medicine, a discipline which provides imaging via a radioactive material that is introduced into the body, usually through injection. The nuclear medicine capabilities at the Baptist include nuclear cardiology, skeletal, GI, and oncologic-related scans.
Computed Tomography Imaging (CT)
Orthopedic diagnostic imaging services are an integral part of the first-class orthopedic care available at the Baptist. Our Department of Radiology performs a range of CT scans. Working closely with orthopedic specialists, radiologists perform both extremity and spine CTs to provide comprehensive care to orthopedic patients. In addition, radiologists at the Baptist perform CT-guided biopsies. This minimally invasive technique saves patients from more invasive surgical approaches. The Baptist's radiologists also perform CT angiography, a patient-friendly procedure for evaluating blood vessels.
